S. Wanandi, Good Indonesian Businessman in the ‘98 Crisis

There are many conglomerates in Indonesia that they generally come from ethnic Chinese. Many people doubt their nationalism. This is related to the economic crisis that occurred in Indonesian, 1998. Many of them fled and left Indonesia with million-dollar debts left behind. But many of them also have good nationalism by taking action to overcome the economic crisis.

One of them is Sofyan Wanandi. He is an Indonesian nouveau riche and well known figure both as an entrepreneurship and politician. Together with his brother Jusuf Wanandi, he has built the Gemala group into a diversified conglomerate with business ranging from finance and insurance to pharmaceuticals. He is also known as a former anti – communist activist.

Ivy Bean is 102 years old, this grandmother is still active to access Internet and renown as oldest member in the social networking site, Facebook. Ivy was born in 1905 in Britain, many years before the computer was found. At the time, the fastest communication system in Britain was telegraph. After several years since known as the richest person in the world, Bill Gates set down from top rank world richest people. The owner of the business software giant Microsoft is to be set down from the number one richest person in the world for thirteen years. Warren Buffett and Carlos Slim Helu now get top position. According to Forbes magazine in 2007, the position of Gates had been over by Carlos Slim Helu, who previously ranked third richest person. And now in 2008, Warren Buffett’s turn this place ranking of the top richest person in the world.

The owner of Microsoft is now only ranked third richest person in the world with a total wealth of U.S. $ 58 billion dollars. Meanwhile, the total wealth of Warren Buffett this year has reached U.S. $ 62 billion dollars.
